Challenge Poverty Week 2026

Challenge Poverty Week has a great and varied number of events and activities being held across South Lanarkshire by many groups and organisations. 

Below is a list of events and activities that are taking place on Thursday 6 October.


Event/Activity:  The Parent Café Nurturing Nook
Location: Rutherglen West and Wardlawhill Parish Church, Western Avenue, Burnhill
Date/Time: Thursday 8 October 2026, 12.30pm – 2.00pm
Description: The Parent Café is a free to attend playgroup best suited for babies and toddlers from 0 to 5 years old.  No registration required – just drop in.


Event/Activity: Small Actions, Big Difference (Pupil-led challenge poverty campaign)
Location: Our Lady and St Anne’s Primary School (Hamilton)
Date/Time: Thursday 8 October
Description: Our Pupil Council will lead our school's Challenge Poverty Week campaign,  exploring the question: 'What can our school community do to challenge poverty?'
Pupils will investigate some of the financial barriers that children and families can experience and consider how our school community can help ensure that everyone feels included and able to participate. Our aim is to give pupils a meaningful voice and show that small actions within our own community can make a big difference.

Location: Douglas Street Clinic (Hamilton)

Description: Raising awareness of their ‘Relational Mentoring’ programme

Event/Activity: NHS Health Improvement Team / Community Engagement Team
Location: Hairmyres Hospital
Date/Time: Thursday 8 October, 10am – 2pm
Description: Increase awareness of NHS Lanarkshire Health Improvement Tackling Poverty Team activity, money advice services, Carers services. Face-to-face community engagement, Money is not the only problem promotion, period product promotion.
